- A statement from Asian Americans United is also full of good information
- The history of how we got into this mess is nicely chronicled in this article in Philadelphia Magazine.
Philadelphia deserves better than casinos.
Their entire business model is premised upon creating more losers than winners.
This is not just an issue for activists. It is a sustainability issue. It is a wellness issue. It is a cultural issue. It is a single issue that may negative repercussions throughout all facets of our city’s life.
We are being told about the jobs that they will create, but not about the jobs that they might destroy. We are being told about the benefits that they might bring, but not about the costs that might outweigh them.
Rather than taking a gamble on casinos, we should carefully examine the damage that they have caused in other communities before allowing them into ours.
Philadelphia’s Arts & Culture community has far more to offer in the way of entertainment than these cheap, exploitative slots parlors. Help spread the word!
Sign up at Casino-Free Philadelphia, prepare your own submissions for our contest, and check back here to see what creative messages get created!
